WAEC gives update on preparation for BECE for School & Private

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) says adequate preparation for BECE for School is ongoing including packing of answer booklets for the national examination to be administered from August 7, 2023 to August 11, 2023.
An official of the non-profit-making organization in a discussion monitored by AcademicWeek.com said the Examinations Council this year has put in place various security measures to avoid leakage of the 2023 BECE questions.
“The candidates will need answer booklets for the examination. As I speak now we are packing the BECE for School answer booklets for every centre. For this year’s BECE we will be using more than 2,000 centres,” the WAEC official said.
In a related development, WAEC says it expects the majority of final-year Senior and Junior High School students preparing to sit for its examinations to pass excellently because the BECE and WASSCE questions are average.
Mr Ben K. Owusu, the Head of Test Development Division, WAEC in an interview monitored by AcademicWeek.com said questions for the national and international examination are standard hence all students can answer to pass.
“The Basic Education Certificate Examination and West African Senior School Certificate Examination questions are not difficult, the questions are related to what they have been taught by their teachers in the classroom,” he said.
The Council member in his advice has urged all candidates to study their books and refrain from going into the examination hall with foreign material in a bid to cheat in the examination or engaged in any form of malpractice.
A spokeswoman for the West African Examinations Council, Agnes Cudjoe says more than 600,000 candidates will sit for the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School and Private slated for August 7 to August 11, 2023.
