GES apologises over Chiana SHS students misconduct video

The Ghana Education Service (GES) following a viral video of some students of Chiana SHS in the Kassena Nankana West District using vulgar and unprintable words on President Akufo-Addo has condemned the act of the students.

In an apology statement to His Excellency copied to AcademicWeek, the management of the Education Service said the unfortunate act of the Chiana Senior High School students is against every educational and moral principle in society.

“We wish to inform the general public that the students in the video have been identified as second-year students of Chiana Senior High School in the Kassena Nankana West District,” the Ghana Education Service (GES) stated.

It indicated that the management of the Kassena Nankana-based Chiana Senior High School (SHS) had commenced complete investigations to unravel the circumstance surrounding such unfortunate utterances and gestures.

As part of the investigation process, parents of the students involved in the misconduct, the management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) say have been invited to assist in the ongoing probe into the matter.

“Management of the Ghana Education Service wishes to extend our sincerest apology to His Excellency the President and the general public on behalf of the students and school,” the statement signed by the GES spokeswoman noted.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) after the conclusion of a thorough investigation into the disturbing issue says it will not hesitate to brief members of the general public on the outcome of the probe.

Reacting to the apology statement, some Ghanaians have called on the Ghana Education Service to develop a standardized code of conduct for Governing Boards of second-cycle schools to dismiss grossly undisciplined students

“GES should develop a code of conduct for students and give the Governing Boards of schools the power to dismiss grossly undisciplined students. Teachers are receiving more than this from recalcitrant students in many schools,” a social media user stated.
