KsTU ranked best Ghana technical university in 2022 ranking
After securing the top spot as the best technical university in the 2021 academic year, Kumasi Technical University, formerly known as Kumasi Polytechnic has retained its position as a top-notch Ghana technical university in 2022.
The Kumasi-based Technical University position comes after the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, also known as Ranking Web of Universities announced high-ranking Ghanaian Universities in their 2022 World University Rankings.

In the 2022 academic year Webometrics ranking, Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) was ranked 1st among the Technical Universities in Ghana and 8th among all Ghanaian Universities comprising both public and private.
A total of 89 Ghanaian tertiary institutions made it to the list of institutions that were featured on the latest rankings, with the University of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology as well as the University of Cape Coast getting 1st to 3rd positions respectively.
The indicators for the ranking are Presence (public knowledge shared), Impact (web-contents impact), Openness (top-cited researchers) and Excellence (top-cited papers).
The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is one of the largest ranking systems for all universities based on a composite indicator that takes into account both the volume of the web content (number of web pages and files) and the visibility and impact of these web publications according to the number of external links they receive.
The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group belonging to the ‘Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas’ (CSIC), the largest public research body in Spain providing reliable, multidimensional, updated and useful information about the performance of Universities in the world.
Kumasi Technical University is one of the Polytechnics in Ghana diverted into a University. It is located at the heart of Kumasi, the capital city of the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
The university, known earlier as Kumasi Technical Institute, was established in 1954, but started actual teaching and learning in 1955, dealing mainly with craft courses. It became a polytechnic on 30 October 1963 and a university in 2017.
From then on, it concentrated on Technicians and a few Diploma Programmes. Additionally, a few professional courses were offered. Following the enactment of the Polytechnic Law 1992, PNDC Law 321, Kumasi Polytechnic ceased to exist in its previous form and became a tertiary institution.
